More adventures in Gujarat

Traffic alert!  Spanning the Narmada River in Gujarat, India is a truss bridge that was built by the British around 1877 to 1881.  The cost to build it was so extravagant that it came to be known as the Golden Bridge.   Nevertheless, it has survived floods and earthquakes and is still very sturdy.

Weddings are practically a daily occurrence in the wintertime, and we crossed paths with a wedding procession while walking through Surat.  The ladies were beautifully dressed in their colorful saris.

The groom, still on his white horse, agreed to pose for a selfie with my colleagues.

While working on our project we were treated to a tour of factories in Surat where enormous quantities of textiles, primarily synthetic materials, are manufactured.
We also toured the amazing facility of SRK Exports, which specializes in cutting and polishing diamonds!

Even the mayor of Surat, Mayor Shiroya, hosted us for a quick visit.
We met with the administration, faculty and students of the Sarjavanik College of Engineering and Technology and had a lively discussion with the students about careers.

At the end of our project, we presented recommendations to Commissioner Milind Torwane of the Surat Municipal Corporation, other distinguished guests, and the media.
